The roll is to determine if you can do the deed or not, if you fail the roll you can't do it again until circumstances change. In tabletop if you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ GM that lets you roll until you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ get it he's a terrible GM and you guys are doing it wrong.
